Guangxi Fine Arts Publishing House
Founded in 1990, the professional Guangxi Fine Arts Publishing House (GFAPH) mainly focus on publishing art theories, technique courses and reference books, such as albums, picture books, New Year pictures, wall calendars, posters, calligraphies, photographs, tourist guides etc. As it has published more than 5000 books after its foundation, and as it was in the top 100 publishing houses in comprehensive competitive power in the Ninth Five-Year Plan Period in China, it has been regarded as one of the most influential publishing houses in fine arts both in art circle and in publishing in China.
GFAPH has made great efforts to collect and spread the excellent achievement of national cultures for a long time, and published a large number of books being of great values to the culture, the academy and the art, such as Selected Works of Qi Baishi from Secret Collection in Beijing Art Academy, Genre Art Series of Guangxi Nationalities, Complete Works of Chinese Folk Arts: Accessories, Complete Works of Fu Baoshi, The Design History of China, Art History of Asia, Treasure Antiques in Guangxi, Critic Time: Selected Works of Critical Essays of Art in China, etc. Among those exciting books, even some have got excellent awards. Colorful Illustrated Course for Preschool Education in Family got the Seventh China Books Award, and another book, Genre Art Series of Guangxi Nationalities, got the Tenth China Books Award. In the National Books Award, An Illustrated Hundred-year-history of The Oil Painting in China (1840-1949) got the Nominee in the Third, Selected Works of Qi Baishi from Secret Collection in Beijing Art Academy got the same in the Fourth, and Complete Works of Chinese Folk Arts: Accessories got the Honor in the Sixth.
Facing the hugely competitive book market, GFAPH adopts vigorous measures to manage all sources for publishing, strengthens and develops its own features, and then even exploits other books besides arts on market demand. Books of basic courses of fine arts and design in GFAPH have occupied the top of the list and formed positive brand effect in professional book market. Some kinds of books, such as Series of Basic Graphic Design, Classic Drawing from Masters, Basic Textbook Series of Modern Design, Crash Marketing: Hand-drawing POP, Comment on Sketch, have developed gradually into large series and set up strong brands in distribution.
In copyright trade, GFAPH tries its best to find various ways in international publishing cooperation, completely tapping the rich overseas publishing sources and extending international book market. Some books, including the picture book Reviving Ginseng which is adapted from famous Chinese classic novel Journey to the West (Xi You Ji), Genre Art Series of Guangxi Nationalities, Complete Works of Chinese Folk Arts: Accessories, Details in Anhui Sculpture which show excellent traditional cultures in China, export their copyrights early or late to the organizations in Sweden and Taiwan region. And the copyrights of some books, Art Theory of Traditional Chinese Painting, Lecture Notes of Masters, Lecture Notes of Traditional Chinese Painting, are made arrangements with Taiwan organizations. All these works have much positive effect on both cultural promotion and communication of excellent traditional cultures between two sides on Taiwan Strait. In importing copyright trade, GFAPH encourages that the trade services for our domestic market, emphasizing on quality, which has succeeded in every book in the copyright trade and got an outstanding result. The trade list becomes long, containing The Encyclopedia of Visual Art, Series of Sculpture Techniques, Series of Dynamic Figure Drawing, Bridgman’s Complete Guide to Drawing from Life, etc. Reprinted for 16 times and reached more than 150 000 in recent two years, Bridgman’s Complete Guide to Drawing from Life becomes the best selling book after it has been sold like hot cakes.
Having much experience in editing and publishing textbook series for over a decade, GFAPH makes efforts in exploiting and promoting the series of fine arts. Examined and approved by the Ministry of Education, Fine Arts, the textbook series for nine-year compulsory education, and Profession Textbook of Fine Arts for National Art Normal School, are both favorite books of teachers and students. Arts Appreciation (for college students), Arts Appreciation (for senior middle school), Writing (for primary school and junior middle school), all of which were approved by the Office of the Textbook Censorship Committee for Primary School and Middle School in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regions, get outstanding results in the teaching practice of local education.
